{"id":5800,"date":"2024-02-10T20:28:22","date_gmt":"2024-02-10T19:28:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/faca.com.ng\/web\/2024\/02\/10\/read_news-phpnid50422\/"},"modified":"2024-02-10T20:28:22","modified_gmt":"2024-02-10T19:28:22","slug":"read_news-phpnid50422","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/faca.com.ng\/web\/2024\/02\/10\/read_news-phpnid50422\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Can play for Man City, Arsenal&#8217; &#8211; Ex-Gunner Djourou tips Adingra to outshine Super Eagles stars in AFCON final"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"newsbody\">\n<p>                    <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.allnigeriasoccer.com\/..\/football_pics\/14060SA.jpg\" height=\"240\" hspace=\"8\" vspace=\"8\" alt=\"'Can play for Man City, Arsenal' - Ex-Gunner Djourou tips Adingra to outshine Super Eagles stars in AFCON final\" align=\"left\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Former Arsenal defender\u00a0Johan Djourou is backing Ivory Coast to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations at the expense of Nigeria\u00a0and reckons that Brighton &amp; Hove winger\u00a0Simon Adingra could be the standout player in Sunday&#8217;s showpiece at the\u00a0Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Abidjan.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Djourou is showing support for the Elephants for obvious reasons &#8211; he was born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast though he went on to play international football for Switzerland, representing them in three World Cups.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A versatile defender,\u00a0Djourou has a mentor-mentee relationship with\u00a0Simon Adingra and played with him at Danish club\u00a0FC Nordsjaelland.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Adingra\u00a0missed the start of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to a hamstring injury he was recovering from but has now returned to fitness and played a key role in the Elephants win over Mali in the quarterfinals, netting right at the death to take the game to extra-time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\nDjourou revealed that\u00a0Adingra has the attributes needed to play for a big club including Arsenal and Manchester City.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Simon is the typical young guy that wants to learn. It was never a question on if he was going to make it, it&#8217;s just to give him the platform to do it. It&#8217;s hard to put a limit on what he can do,&#8221; he said to the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/sounds\/play\/p0hb6mc1\" rel=\"noopener\">BBC World Service<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n&#8220;For me he&#8217;s one of those that can easily play\u00a0in the next few years for (Manchester) City or Arsenal or those kind of teams\u00a0 because he&#8217;s so talented and has very great personality. He works, wants to be better everyday&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>When asked if Adngra could be the star in the AFCON final,\u00a0Djourou answered: &#8220;I hope so but the thing is we should not forget that he arrived here injured.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From where he&#8217;s coming from with that injury, it&#8217;s already good, good things he&#8217;s doing. Could he be the star in the final?
