Former Nigeria international, Sam Sodje, has raised concerns about the composition of Jose Peseiro\u2019s 25-man Super Eagles squad for the upcoming AFCON 2023 in C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire.<\/p>\n
Sodje, speaking on Brila FM, believes that the squad is imbalanced, particularly pointing out an excess of strikers and a lack of creativity in the midfield.<\/p>\n
According to Sodje, the team lacks players who can effectively pass the ball forward and create scoring opportunities.<\/p>\n
He said \u201cWe are going to the AFCON with an imbalance squad, we are taking too many strikers, we are lacking that creativity in the midfield where players can pass the ball forward and create chances to win games.\u201d<\/p>\n
He expressed worries about the defensive capabilities of the squad, emphasizing that a solid defense is crucial for success in a tournament.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are going with too many side passes players, no disrespect to the players and we\u2019ve been conceding goals left, right and centre. We should stop that because a solid defence is the benchmark to win a tournament.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlso, it is a well known fact the problem we have in the goalkeeping department.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo if you put all these together there are reasons to be worried but we are fans of the Super Eagles and we will support them.\u201d Sodje said.<\/p>\n

The Eagles have officially opened their training camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, as they prepare for the AFCON tournament.<\/p>\n
The Super Eagles are drawn in Group A alongside C\u00f4te d\u2019Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau. The AFCON 2023 is scheduled to commence on January 13 and conclude on February 11, 2024.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
