Victor Osimhen, the African Player of the Year, has arrived in Nigeria in preparation for the upcoming 2023 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cote d\u2019Ivoire.<\/p>\n
The Super Eagles striker left Napoli after Thursday\u2019s training session with SC Napoli, as confirmed by a club statement.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt the end of today\u2019s training, Osimhen obtained a day\u2019s leave so he could join his family before leaving for the national team\u2019s training camp.\u201d\u00a0<\/span>We remind you that the former Lille player is disqualified in the championship and would have missed the match against Monza anyway, \u201d Napoli wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n The Nigerian forward was sent off in Napoli\u2019s 2-0 loss at AS Roma and so is unavailable for the league clash vs Monza.<\/p>\n His red card vs Roma was the Partonopei\u2019s second of that game, and attracted criticism from some quaters in Naples but manager Walter Mazzari has pardoned the 24-year old.<\/p>\n \u201cPerhaps he felt the pressure after such a great season,\u201d Mazzarri said at a press conference on Thursday, as quoted by Il Corriere dello Sport.<\/p>\n \u201cUnfortunately, he was returning from an injury, and now he will play in the Africa Cup of Nations.
