President Bola Tinubu and the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, hosted a reception in Lagos on Thursday for Asisat Oshoala, the Super Falcons striker and 2023 CAF Women\u2019s Player of the Year. Oshoala, who plays for Barcelona Femeni, secured the prestigious award for the sixth time earlier this month.<\/p>\n
President Tinubu and the First Lady congratulated Oshoala for her remarkable achievement and praised her significant contributions to women\u2019s football on the continent.<\/p>\n
They commended her for distinguishing herself in the sport and acknowledged the pride she brings to Nigerian women through her accomplishments.<\/p>\n
The President expressed his admiration for Nigerian women excelling not only in football but also in various fields globally.<\/p>\n
He cited the achievements of star sprinter Tobi Amusan and the presence of multiple Nigerian women on Forbes\u2019 \u20182023 World\u2019s 100 Most Powerful Women\u2019 list, including media mogul Ms. Mo Abudu and Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.<\/p>\n
President Tinubu and the First Lady assured Oshoala of the nation\u2019s continued support, emphasizing their commitment to backing Nigerian women striving for excellence in their chosen paths.<\/p>\n
\u201cNigerian women will always have a pride of place in the world,\u201d President Tinubu told Oshoala.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat our ladies have achieved in football, our women are achieving in all fields of endeavour around the world\u2014rising to the top and demonstrating the best of the Nigerian character of excellence, tenacity, ingenuity, and resilience.\u201d<\/p>\n
After the warm reception, Oshoala expressed her gratitude, saying, \u201dI want to appreciate the President and the First Lady for giving me the opportunity to present the award to them.
