In a bid to reclaim the Women\u2019s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title lost to South Africa last year, Justin Madugu, the Interim Coach of Nigeria\u2019s senior national women\u2019s team, expressed optimism about the Super Falcons\u2019 chances in the upcoming tournament in Morocco.<\/p>\n
Assured of a strong pool of talented players which includes CAF Women\u2019s Player and goalkeeper of the year Asisat Oshoala and Chiamaka Nnadozie, Madugu\u00a0is focused on bringing the coveted trophy back to Nigeria.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn spite of recent developments in women\u2019s football across Africa, we still believe in ourselves. We remain the best team in Africa. Our target and focus is nothing other than going for the trophy in Morocco. We have to prove that what happened last time around was a mistake which we are ready to correct by winning back the trophy,\u201d Madugu stated.<\/p>\n
Having assisted Randy Waldrum at the 2023 FIFA Women\u2019s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, Madugu emphasized the lessons learned from the last WAFCON and the determination to avoid repeating errors that cost them the title.<\/p>\n
Addressing the prospect of facing formidable opponents, Madugu asserted, \u201cSuper Falcons do not fear any team in Africa. Rather, other countries should dread us. We have not fallen to the level of dreading anybody. We have respect for every team, but Super Falcons will never dread anybody.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reflecting on his experience as head coach, Madugu acknowledged the challenges but expressed gratitude for the collective effort that secured qualification for WAFCON 2024. He emphasized the collaborative support from the Nigeria Football Federation, players, and backroom staff, outlining the shared goal of qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games and clinching the WAFCON title.<\/p>\n
As the interim coach, Madugu remains confident that, with collective efforts and determination, the Super Falcons will achieve success on their journey to WAFCON 2024 and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n
