Germany forward\u00a0Paris Brunner has won the Golden Ball award of the 2023 Fifa U17 World Cup following the conclusion of the tournament in Indonesia on Saturday, December 2.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Borussia Dortmund starlet mustered five goals and provided an assist in seven appearances at the tournament including a brace in Germany’s hard fought win over Argentina in the semifinals and one in the final against France.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Brunner is the nineteenth different player to win the Golden Ball since the competition was first held in China in 1985.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Four Nigerian players have won the award in the past, namely Philip Osondu (1985), Sani Emmanuel (2009), Kelechi Iheanacho (2013) and Kelechi Nwakali (2015).<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
By winning the Golden Ball, Brunner also followed in the footsteps of the likes of\u00a0Nii Lamptey, Landon Donovan, Florent Sinama-Pongolle, Cesc F\u00e0bregas, Toni Kroos and Phil Foden.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Golden Boot, awarded to the top scorer of the competition, went to Argentina’s\u00a0Agustin Ruberto\u00a0 – an award previously won by former Golden Eaglets players Wilson Oruma\u00a0(1993),\u00a0Macauley Chrisantus\u00a0(2007) and Victor Osimhen (2015).<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Osimhen has scored the most goals in a single tournament, ten in total, which is two more than Ruberto who netted eight goals in seven games for\u00a0La Albiceleste.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
France glovesman Paul Argney was awarded the Golden Glove, an award won by Nigeria’s Dele Alampasu in 2013.<\/p>\n
