2017 world champions England were on top of their game on Saturday as they demolished\u00a0New Caledonia 10-0 in their 2023 Fifa U17 World Cup opener staged at Jakarta International Stadium.<\/p>\n

England U17 manager\u00a0Ryan Garry handed game time to the two Nigeria-eligible players named in his 21-man squad, with Manchester City striker\u00a0Justin Oboavwoduo going the full ninety and Arsenal attacking midfielder Ethan Nwaneri entering the game as a substitute in the 62nd minute.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
After\u00a0Reiss Denny opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 16th minute,\u00a0Oboavwoduo finished from close range to double the advantage on the half-hour mark, before goals from\u00a0Tyler Dibling and Josh-Kofi Acheampong made it 4-0.<\/p>\n

Four minutes into the second half,\u00a0Sam Amo-Ameyaw\u2019 scored England’s fifth goal and Oboavwoduo increased the lead in the 57th minute when he displayed composure to slot past goalkeeper Nicolas\u00a0Kutran.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Nwaneri scored the pick of the goals in the 78th minute when he curled an effort into the top corner from 20 yards out before an own\u00a0goal from\u00a0Wadria Hanye made it 8-0.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Harrison Murray-Campbell, assisted by Nwaneri, and Finley McAllister rounded off the scoring in the closing minutes.<\/p>\n

Oboavwoduo and Nwaneri emulated ex-Young Lions star Victor Moses by contributing to two goals apiece in the comprehensive win over\u00a0New Caledonia.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
At the 2007 edition of the tournament, Moses became the first player of Nigerian descent representing the Young Lions to directly participate in two goals in a single game at the World Cup with his first half brace in a 5-0 hammering of New Zealand.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 10-0 rout of New Caledonia is England’s biggest win at the Fifa U17 World Cup, surpassing their 5-0 victory over New Zealand in South Korea 2007.<\/p>\n
