Football fans in Akwa Ibom State have expressed great joy over the return of the Governor\u2019s Cup competition which gets underway on Thursday September 21, 2023.<\/p>\n
After over a decade long wait, the local government areas of Akwa Ibom State, will again, battle for the Governor\u2019s Cup title, a competition with immense on-field and off-field benefits.<\/p>\n
The Uyo Township Stadium will serve as venue for the opening ceremony on September 21, 2023 by 4pm, after the official flag-off by Pst. Umo Eno, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State.<\/p>\n
In separate chats with SportsRation correspondent, Nsikakabasi Akpan, football fans in the South South state, said they were happy to have the Governor\u2019s Cup revived and are looking forward to the discovery of stars in the mould of, former Super Eagles skipper, Vincent Enyeama, Friday Ekpo, Emem Eduok , Ubong Ekpai, Aniekpeno Udoh, etc.<\/p>\n
As earlier drawn, the first round will have all the local government areas do battle at Senatorial District level, from where 12-teams will emerge for the Super 12.<\/p>\n
Reigning Champions of the competition Nsit Ubuim, will face Uyo Local Government Area in the opening match.<\/p>\n
