With a statement on their official website<\/a>, Premier League newcomers Luton Town have announced the signing of cap-tied England international of Nigerian descent, Ross Barkley.\u00a0<\/p>\n\u00a0<\/p>\n
The attacking midfielder has returned to the Premier League a year after he departed Chelsea for OGC Nice in France.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
During his time at Stamford Bridge, Barkley made one hundred career appearances for the Blues, registering 12 goals and 11 assists.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The 29-year-old won the FA Cup, UEFA Europa League and Fifa Club World Cup as a Chelsea player.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The 33-cap England international has joined Luton Town on a free transfer, subject to international clearance, ahead of the Hatters’ Premier League opener against Brighton & Hove on Saturday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Luton Town have not disclosed the length of deal signed by Barkley but informed that he will be wearing the number 6 at the back of his jersey for the 2023-2024 season.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Commenting on his return to the Premier League, the Everton academy product said: “Why Luton? Going from the Conference to the Premier League is a great story and for me personally to be back in the Premier League, it\u2019s great motivation.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
“I\u2019m still relatively young and over the last couple of years I\u2019ve not played as much as I\u2019d have liked.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
“But I\u2019ve reserved a lot of energy and looked after myself, so it\u2019s great to be here now as I\u2019ve got a lot to show but I\u2019m ready and feeling motivated.”<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
Barkley links up with three players of Nigerian descent at\u00a0Kenilworth Road, namely Gabriel Osho, Chiedozie Ogbene and Elijah Adebayo.\u00a0<\/p>\n
