“My Best Is Yet To Come”- 9 Year Old Makinde Waris, Femmco FC Wonderkid Reveals


Makinde Waris has enjoyed adjusting to his boyhood club, Femmco Football Club making 36 appearances across all competitions since getting promotion to the U10 team.

The 9-year-old has provided some stand-out moments in the “no pain no gain” shirt, finding the back of the net across multiple competitions, but most memorably in the Ozoya Soccer League U13 when his powerful strike helped secure maximum points GFC he represented against Young Winners FC.

His iconic acrobatic goal in the scouting invitational tournament organised by the Nigeria Football Coaches Association, IFO chapter last weekend earn him a place in the 9-Players listed for a scholarship benefits.

Despite flashes of brilliance in his performances, he determined to reach even greater heights as he recognises there is more to come. As the new season OSL 2025/2026 about to start, the young prodigy remains committed to pushing himself further, setting higher standards, and striving for improvement.

‘I want to do better, to be honest,’ Waris reflected. ‘I know I can do much better. I’ve had good moments during last season, but I know I can do much better. I’m working on it. The goal is to do my best, improve and reach my level. That is my goal. I have to finish in the best way.’

This drive for excellence has been a defining characteristic of his footballing story, having made his journey through to become the best youngster U10 in IFO and its environs.

Coach Oladehinde Adebayo has played a key part in his current chapter, with the winger acknowledging he has found a coach whose philosophy aligns perfectly with his own routine.

‘It’s really good to have a Coach like that, with the mentality that he has, added. ‘He always want us to work hard every day if we want to play.

‘It’s the mentality that every player has to have so we arrive at the top. We need to work hard together so we can reach our top level. It’s about consistency and hard work.’
