Iheanacho expected to link up with Super Eagles in Lagos ahead of trip to Ivory Coast on Jan 10

Iheanacho expected to link up with Super Eagles in Lagos ahead of trip to Ivory Coast on Jan 10

Allnigeriasoccr.com has been told that Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho will not take part in the Super Eagles training camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

While Iheanacho’s teammate at Leicester City, Wilfred Ndidi is ruled out of the Africa Cup of Nations due to a muscular injury and has been replaced in the squad, the Nigeria Football Federation are confident that 2013 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Ball winner will link up with the team in Lagos next week.

Injury has prevented Iheanacho from traveling to Abu Dhabi for the training camp but he is making good progress in his rehabilitation from injury and has started running exercises.

The former Manchester City wonderkid has struggled with fitness issues since the start of December, limiting his appearances to two games for the Foxes in the Championship.

The Super Eagles will be facing Guinea in a friendly on January 8 as part of their preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations opener against Equatorial Guinea.

All things being equal, Iheanacho will be with his teammates for the send forth dinner scheduled to hold at 2000 hours in Marina, Lagos on January 9 before the Super Eagles players and officials fly out to Ivory Coast the following day, January 10.

Iheanacho is arguably the Super Eagles most influential player since the end of last season, having scored or assisted in each of his last five appearances for the national team and wore the captain’s armband in a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Lesotho.
