Done deal: Released Liverpool defender of Nigerian descent joins St Johnstone:: All Nigeria Soccer
Released Liverpool defender of Nigerian descent Oludare Olufunwa has joined Scottish Premiership side, St Johnstone.
Through their official website, the Saints have confirmed snapping up the versatile defender for free on a two-year deal.
He is set to join the Saints’ first team and will don the number 17 jersey.
The 22-year-old was released by Liverpool at the end of last season less than a year after moving to Merseyside.
The English-Nigerian defender had an unsuccessful time with the six-time European champions as he struggled with injuries for most of last season.
He could only feature for the Reds’ development side in 10 games across all competitions comprising four games in the Premier League 2, two in the Papa Johns Trophy and four in the Premier League International Cup.
The Super-Eagles eligible centre-back is a product of Southampton Academy where he spent 12 years and was released in 2022.
Having been unable to taste first-team football in England, he now has an opportunity to play regular first-team football in Scotland.
He could get the opportunity to make his debut for St Johnstone tomorrow when they face Hearts on the first matchday of the new Scottish Premiership season.
