Government College Lagos Celebrate Runners-up Spot In 2025 KidSport Charity Cup

Players, coaches, officials, teachers and old students of Government College Lagos, Eric Moore Road, Surulere were in celebratory mood on Saturday, after their football team finished second in this year’s KidSport Charity Cup.

Sports247 gathered that, though many spectators felt the team should have been downcast with their loss in the final, one of the school’s former students, Femi Olowoyeye said he was happy because ‘The Spotless Boys’ delivered a stellar performance in the competition.

Olowoyeye, who graduated in 1984 from the school fondly called GCL, added that it was not a mean feat to emerge as runners-up in the 15th edition of the highly prestigious competition.

He further disclosed that the competition, which was powered by KingMakers and sponsored by Olam, also featured French School, American International School Lagos, SOS Lagos and Dazzle FC, among others.

Olowoyeye added, “Our team demonstrated remarkable poise and teamwork throughout. They began the group stage with a resilient 0-0 draw against Strong Dove FA, followed by a 2-1 victory over SOS ISOLO, thereby securing top position in their group.

“In a tense semi-final, they clinched a hard-fought 1-0 win against American International School Lagos (AISL) to advance into the championship match.

“The final was a closely contested battle, where our boys narrowly fell 0-1 to Dazzle FC, to finish as valiant runners-up and silver medalists.

“This outstanding achievement reflects the determination and talent of our students. We extend our profound gratitude to GCLOBA and every Old Boy whose unwavering support, contributions, and encouragement made this experience possible.

“Your commitment provides our boys with priceless opportunities to compete on notable platforms and grow in character and skill.

“As we celebrate this success, we earnestly advocate for greater unity and reconciliation within our ranks.

“Let us move forward with all hands-on deck to continue developing Government College Lagos, empowering our current and future students, and strengthening our alumni network.”
